the beautiful 90's.

ok, now I'm not really one for big name fashion stuff, but remember those Calvin Klein Eternity ads from the 90's? With the beautiful Christy Turlington? those were great. over the years the tv commercials have changed with the times and have included scarlett johansen, britney spears and justin timberlake. vomit.vomit. vomit. here are some of the old orginal ones. they're beautiful, even if i do believe in a different type of eternity.

Ode to the perfect cupcake!

Cupcakes are wonderful! In fact, they just don't get enough attention I feel! If I could dedicate my entire blog to cupcakes, I would. The power of a good cupcake is highly under estimated. Charly's bakery in Roeland street has to offer the best cupcakes so far and they truly have mad skills when it comes to decorating them. Cupcakes should be bright and colourful and look completely synthetic!  I will invent a cupcake unlike the world has ever seen or tasted! But for now, the ones in these pictures are pretty awesome! The Lego ones, wow!

yesterday, when i got in my car to leave work the man parked in front of me got into his car through his boot. with legs hanging out, he unlocked the doors, climbed out of the boot, looked at me and then we both proceeded to laugh at the very funny situation. har har har.

got to work early this morning and danced in a meeting room with the lights off while listening to "I'll believe in anything" by Wolf Parade on my ipod. THE GREATEST THING I'VE DONE IN A VERY LONG TIME! So I'm spreading the joy. Go dance in the streets kids!

"The youth are starting to change, are you starting to change?"

I Found a picture of a little girl and started thinking about her future. In a few years she will be bullied at school, will be forced to experience character building by entering thousands of Eisteddfods and will be thrust into failure at an early age when she is turned down for a role in a musical because of her lack of an Afrikaans accent. She will add a sense of innocence and love to people's weddings with her voice.

In high school her life will become music and she will form many friendships that will last into her 20's, but will lose the one that means the most. She will be sent out of math's lessons and will never attend a physical education lesson because she will rather spend time in the music department where she will be moved to tears by her own playing. It is towards the end of her high school career that she realises that she actually doesn't care about the opinions of others and how they will affect her life. She will stand up and say, " do not judge me. you do not know me. you do not know my life."- because an alternate reality will stare her in the face.

In college she will discover that she may have a penchant for writing  while discovering public transport- she will fall in love with every train platform, every silent glance passed by fellow commuters and the time that it will afford her alone. She will begin to really see people and will follow cobble-stoned streets that lead to buildings that will open the door to her imagination. She will make assumptions, take chances and be a little reckless. Books will be read that will turn her view of the world on it's head. She will become stronger and at the same time petrified of future situations. She will realise that the land that she grew up in is not the only one with possibilities. She will capture me in a photograph.

I'd like a typewriter. then i would write stories. and good old fashioned letters. and letters to the government. and messages in bottles that would be found on the distant shores of Ireland by a boy who would write back...using his typewriter.

"Vinyl is a religion. Dunny is its icon."

Man alive!  They've started making Dunny necklaces. my world is clearly complete.  Visit Toi Toy in the waterfront (www.toitoy.co.za). it'll blow your mind. Went there twice in one day to purchase some Dunnies.  On the second visit the shop assistant laughed at me. I told him I have a problem. He said that he understands.

this is my plan

"There's always something waiting at the end of the road. If you're not willing to see what it is, you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place." It's time for change. Someone who I least expected to (and someone who I never thought I would ever respect again) gave me some bloody good advice recently. life works out in the strangest way. have a good strange life day!

so there are two paper towel dispensers in the ladies at work. the one is two ply and you need to actually tug on the paper towel manually to get it out the dispenser. the second one, is one ply and works on electricity to dispense the paper towel. which is more environmentally friendly?

pinkbirdy's plans for the week end.

i have these two friends. it's there 6 month anniversary today. they knew each other for years and one day he told her he loved her and that he doesn't expect her to say it back, 'cause he's just known for a really long time. i pity the fool who doesn't believe in love.

a modern romance.

oh my scone. there is more than one "eggs are magic" taxi on the road. and no it wasn't the same one, saw the old one, which could actually be the newly discovered one, then saw the newly discovered one, which could have actually have been the old one.

I'm not sure how i feel about the pattern on the upholstery in my car. never really thought about it before yesterday. how do you feel about yours? never really thought about it, have you?

So I'm driving along in traffic this morning. Merrily singing along to The Postal Service, when BAM, someone drove into me. Such is life. Shame, I hope Martin Chifarimba's (of Zimbabwean origin) day gets better. And I didn't get his registration number. The only annoying thing is that now i have to use my  lunch break to go and report the incident at the police station so that hopefully my insurance can pay for it, because Martin doesn't have insurance. I feel bad for Martin- he has a floppy handshake.
